Please vote in this year’s Canadian federal election and know who you are voting for, at the personal level.
Our system of politics is crazy, in that it thrusts “parties” into power rather than providing us with a house of representatives who are actually free to speak and act on our behalf.
Our current governing party, who call themselves “Conservatives”, could not be further from the traditional Conservative Party that helped found our nation. The “Harper Government” is, in reality, what’s left over from the Reform Party, a party that was created expressly to supplant the traditional Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. They made this take over for political reasons centered around putting more emphasis on the “western provinces”. Their motivations had nothing to do with what was best for Canada or Canadians and that’s something I think a true Conservative, such as the Right Honorable John Diefenbaker, would object to. Here is a quote from Mr. Diefenbaker,
“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” – Right Honorable John Diefenbaker, July 1, 1960.
That amazing sentiment could not be farther from how the “Harper Government” has looked upon and treated this wonderful country of ours over the last several years. The “Harper Government” is the ONLY government to ever be held in contempt of parliament in our 148 year history. That’s why we had the last election – the rest of our representatives didn’t believe the “Harper Government” should lead our country, so they banded together and brought down the government.
Now it’s up to us, the voting public, to get people back in that House of Commons who want to be there for the right reasons.
Please take a few moments to read the Wikipedia page on the Canadian Reform Party, as it details the extremely partisan underpinnings of the “Harper Government”, whose conservative party does NOT share the practical, socially responsible underpinnings of the former Progressive Conservative Party, nor the Conservative Party that helped form our nation.
If you’ve traditionally voted conservative, it’s time to take a closer look at who you’re actually voting for. The federal Conservative Party you once knew is gone, replaced by “The Harper Government”.
“True Conservatives” out there, please be part of the solution in this year’s election by voting for folks who will actually represent you. Please do not just “vote blue”.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
